Matthew C. Huffman

Matt Huffman is an experienced and accomplished attorney with expertise in corporate law and commercial litigation. Since joining the law firm in 1985, Matt has earned a reputation as a skilled communicator and problem solver. His unique ability to explain the legal process in a simple, straightforward way has earned him the respect of many clients with diverse problems seeking professional advice. In addition to corporate and commercial litigation, Matt is an experienced professional in the areas of estate planning, domestic relations and the recovery of damages incurred through personal injury. He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and has argued cases before the Ohio Supreme Court, the US Court of Appeals Sixth Circuit and many Ohio District Courts of Appeals.

Matt also has a long history of public service. He served fifteen years on Lima City Council, the last eight as Council President from 1998-2006. In 2006 he was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives and served as Speaker Pro Tempore during his final term which ended in 2014 due to term limits. In 2016, Matt was elected to serve as Senator of the 12th Senate District of Ohio; in January 2019 he was elected by his fellow senators to serve as Majority Leader. Matt’s accomplishments in the state legislature include negotiating two separate pieces of bipartisan redistricting legislation, both of which were overwhelmingly supported by the Ohio electorate.

Matt was born and raised in Lima and graduated from Lima Central Catholic in 1978. He is a 1982 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where he met his wife, Sheryl. They were married in 1984 and moved to Lima shortly after his graduation from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1985. Matt and Sheryl have four grown children and four beautiful grandchildren.
